Big Blue Honors Rosa Parks:

To mark the 50th anniversary of Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus to a white man which led to the historic bus boycott that, in turn, ignited the civil rights movement, Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus will drape black ribbons, along with commemorative markers honoring Parks, across the first seats in all its buses on Thursday, December 1.

In addition, specially prepared cards detailing Parks’ heroic action and her life story will be distributed to passengers.

Rosa Parks, 92, died on October 24 at her home in Detroit, just a few months shy of the 50th anniversary of the day she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat.“We wanted to publicly acknowledge Mrs. Parks for her dignified act of courage so many years ago, when few dared to speak out against inequality,” said Big Blue Bus General Manager Stephanie Negriff.
