Madison Project Gets New Name, New Gifts:

Santa Monica College’s Madison theater has a new name, and has recently received a number of new gifts and grants.  

The new name is “Performing Arts Center and Music Academy of Santa Monica College.”

Werner and Mimi Wolfen have commissioned a new art piece for the Center by Santa Monica-based artist Tony Berlant, whose works are in many private and public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.. the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.Recent gifts include one from Daniel Greenberg, Susan Steinhauser and the Greenberg Foundation that secured the naming of the east lounge and a small box in the theater.  In addition, the Kayne Foundation has donated programming funds, and the Riegler Deutch Foundation has made a 3:1 matching grant of $100,000 toward the Center’s Endowment goal of $5 million.
