UCLA, UCSB, UCB and Sanford are joining together to create the Western Institute of Nanoelectronics. It will be one of the world’s largest joint research programs focusing on the pioneering technology called “spintronics.” The Institute’s headquarters will be located on the UCLA campus. It is being established with grants of $18.2 million from IBM, Intel, Texas Instruments, AMD, Freescale and MICRON, as well as a UC Discovery Grant.
