UCLA has recently opened the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity and Politics. The Center will serve both undergraduate and graduate students working in the field.“Issues of race and ethnicity are some of the most complex modern societies have to face,” says Mark Q. Sawyer, director of the center and professor of political science and African American studies, “Opening this center is the culmination of an attempt to move racial issues to the center of scholarly study.”Several of the many issues students are working on include Salvadoran migrants in the U.S., African migrants in France and the interaction between African Americans and Chinese migrants in the Mississippi Delta.
