Subject: Iran Flaunts Its Nuclear Achievement

We have difficulty understanding the mentality of Iran’s newest ruler. Then again we don’t understand the mentality of the men who flew into the World Trade Center or the mobs who chant “death to America.” It is not just that Iran’s ruler denies the Holocaust and has called for the destruction of Israel, it is that he is a believer in the imminent reappearance of the 12th Imam. He has said the end of history is only two or three years away, that the Islamic revolution is to prepare for the messianic redemption, which he believes is preceded by worldwide upheaval and chaos. How better to light the fuse for eternal bliss than with a nuclear flame?

Fanatics infatuated with the next world have nothing to lose by destroying this one. Unfortunately the cost to stop this fanatic will be very grave both economically and loss of life, but what choice do we have if Iran refuses to stop the enrichment of Uranium?

The board and members of the Ocean Park Association would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation for the fine work that Rainer Zebala Partners and the Sculpture Conservation Studio have done in restoring the Ocean Park underpass murals. We watched as they meticulously cleaned and painted and graffiti-sealed the Whales and the Merry-Go-Round (“Unbridled”) murals. With the new anti-graffiti coating there has only been one incident of vandalism to date, and it was easily removed without apparent damage to the art.

We also wish to thank the City Council for approving the necessary funding, and their understanding that art and beautification of our neighborhoods bring benefit to all. And, as Ocean Park Blvd. is used by many residents to access Main St. and the south beach areas, all improvements are greatly appreciated.
