The Santa Monica Waves Netball team, the United States champions, practice every Saturday at Marine Park in Santa Monica.
Netball is the most popular sport in the world for women but receives much more recognition in Europe than in the United States. It is akin to basketball, but with no dribbling or body contact. Players are restricted to areas on the court. There are seven players from each team on the court.
The Waves have four players on the U.S. national team.
A past-midnight start didn’t deter the 300+ volunteers who turned out to help Santa Monica’s homeless by way of the Annual Homeless Count Wednesday night. Now in its fifth year, the count plays a crucial role in resource allocation, funds appropriation and solution management in the City.
