Prominent talent agent Ari Emanuel and his wife Sarah Addington hosted over a hundred people in the backyard of their Brentwood home to hear former Vice President Al Gore speak on behalf of California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides. Hollywood notables such as Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, Ted Dansen, Larry David and Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) stood alongside politicians including Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Councilman Alex Padilla, Assemblymember Judy Chu and Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante.
With a definite emphasis on the state of the nation, Gore began his opening remarks with, “It’s time for a national oil change and that’s apparent to anyone who is taking a look at our national dipstick.” He was passionate about the fact that “the American people are very concerned about our country.” Gore added, “I never thought our country could abandon core principles and fall so fast, but it did, and what happens here in California sets the stage for what will happen nationwide two years from now.”
A most animated Gore went on to predict, “A groundswell is rolling across the country, and Democrats have a good chance of taking over the Senate and House.” He became extremely emotional: “Never again will we allow the right wing conservatives to set this country back hundreds of years by usurping the fundamental freedoms on which this nation was founded.”
Gore’s remarks were powerful and inspiring, citing that despite the enormous amount of money Schwarzenegger has spent on his reelection campaign, Angelides is polling only 10 points behind the incumbent.
