I can still remember the first time I heard “At Seventeen,” Janis Ian’s sad and poignant tale of a young teen’s woes stemming from just trying to fit in. The understated intensity of the song really resonated with me and, to this day, continues to have the same effect.

Any time one gets the opportunity to check out the drumming wizardry of Stephen Perkins in a teeny, tiny Santa Monica club, it’s definitely a “must attend.” Perkins is a San Fernando Valley native and the former drummer and percussionist for Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros. He’ll be performing with jazz/hip hop trumpet wonder, Willie Waldman, former Firm bassist Tony Franklin and Brian Jordan in what should be a rockin’ night. Let them corrode your soul with some alternative stank. You’ll be glad you did.
