Pets & More: POM Safe To Drink Again:

The Mirror has learned the POM boycott is over.

As reported in the January 18-24 issue of the Mirror, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) had called for the boycott of all POM products due to the company’s practice of inhumane animal testing.

POM has agreed to end all of its very deadly animal testing. In a letter to PETA, Matt Tupper, POM president and CEO, stated: “Neither POM Wonderful nor its related entities provide funding for ongoing animal testing on POM Juice (or POM Tea). Moreover, there are no plans to do so in the future.”

“POM’s decision to end animal tests is a victory for common sense and consumers as well as for rabbits and mice,” says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. “Clinical trials on human volunteers produce far more accurate and reliable results than do tests on frightened animals of other species.”

The POM Horrible campaign lasted approximately two months. Actress, activist and Malibu resident Pamela Anderson was crucial in getting the word out about POM’s animal testing. Local stores that refused to carry POM products include John’s Garden Fresh in Malibu, Rainbow Acres in Culver City and Erewhon in West Hollywood.
