World Water Day, designated in 1992 when the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution, is an international day of observance and action to draw attention to the plight of the more than one billion people worldwide that lack access to clean drinking water.
The Los Angeles “Walk for Water” took place on Saturday, March 24, with several hundred participants gathering at Santa Monica Pier and walking to Windward Avenue in Venice to draw attention to the world water crisis. Participants were inspired by the long journey women and children make every day in “water stressed” countries – a struggle that prevents them from pursuing education and income. Similar events took place in 26 cities across the US and Canada.
