Body Found Off Pier Identified:

A body was found floating face down in the ocean off the west end of Santa Monica Pier Tuesday night, April 17, at 9:40 p.m., and Harbor Guards performed an ocean rescue to bring it to the top of the Pier.  Attempts to resuscitate the subject were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin, but on Thursday morning, April 19, Los Angeles County Coroner spokesman Craig Harvey told the Mirror that notification had been made.  The deceased man is Nobuo Gary Yamagami, age 83, of West Los Angeles.

No cause of death had yet been assigned by the Coroner’s Office, as the post mortem examination, scheduled for April 19, had not been completed at that time.  Santa Monica Police, who responded to the Pier Tuesday night to assist the Harbor Guards, issued a release stating, “There does not appear to be any signs of foul play.”
