The Santa Monica High baseball team has started Ocean League play with two wins.
All-CIF lefthander Joe McGrew pitched Samohi to a 9-0 home victory over Hawthorne on March 30. When the teams played again, Samohi won at Hawthorne, 7-2.
During spring break coach Kevin Brockway’s team has been active with non-league and tournament games. The overall record is 10-5.
Santa Monica lost to Capistrano Valley, 13-4, split a doubleheader with Santa Fe High (winning 6-1 and losing 3-1) and defeated Alhambra, 9-4.
David Castellanos is the leading hitter at .479, followed by Casey Reese (.419) and Rayvelle Holsome (.407).
McGrew’s pitching record is 4-0 with a 1.51 ERA. Devon Ramirez is 3-1 and Tyler Skaggs 2-1. Samohi’s next home game will be April 17 against Inglewood.
