What Not to Do

Sunday, May 13 at 2:30 a.m. – Travelodge Motel at 1525 Ocean Avenue – Guests from San Diego went out for the evening and, upon returning to their room, heard scuffling noises behind the door. They entered the room [Mistake No. 1] and heard voices in the bathroom, which they found to be locked from the inside. The guests then kicked the bathroom door open [Mistake No. 2] and found that the persons unknown had fled out the bathroom window. [Moral: These folks were lucky, but you know the rest: When in doubt, dial 911.]

Gotcha

Sunday, May 13 at 2:55 a.m. – 1500 block of Alley 1 (behind Ocean Avenue) – Officers responding to the burglary call recounted above detained two Suspects in the alley. One was in possession of a couple of hotel keys for hotels not located in Santa Monica and a credit card in a name other than his own. He was arrested for possession of lost or stolen property (the hotel keys) and for possession of stolen property (the credit card). His colleague was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Just Lucky

Sunday, May 13 at 10:10 a.m. – 1300 block of Ocean Avenue (Palisades Park) – A woman called police to report that a man on a bus bench was exposing himself. When officers responded, they found the reporting party gone but the gentleman in question on the scene. Since he was on parole, he was subject to search, and his fanny pack yielded several small pieces of rock cocaine and a four-inch glass pipe generally used for smoking same. He was arrested for possession of the cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of parole. (The indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, had not been committed in the presence of the officers, and the witness was gone, so the fellow got a free pass on that.)

Massage Parlors, Again

Monday, May 14 at 9:35 p.m. – Oriental Shiatsu Massage at 1835 Santa Monica Boulevard – Undercover vice officers, responding to complaints from neighbors, conducted a “massage parlor compliance check” and visited the establishment. The officers arrested one of the masseuses, who was booked for violation of Santa Monica Municipal Code section 6.104.110(o): “No massage technician, while performing any massage or associated task, shall be present in any room with another person unless that person’s genitals, genital area, buttocks and female breasts are fully covered.”
