Samohi Softball Team Loses in Second Round:

The Santa Monica High softball team was eliminated from the CIF playoffs in the second round Tuesday, May 22, in an 11-inning 2-1 loss at Oak Park High in Agoura.

Julia Rice, a sophomore, struck out 19 Viking batters and drove in the winning run.

Samohi, which went 10-0 in the Ocean League and 26-4 overall, had won its playoff opener from Burbank, 1-0.

Hannah Rose-Peters led Samohi in batting this season with a .476 average and had 26 RBIs. The statistics in this article include all games but the final one.

Centerfielder Hayley Condon batted .425 and scored 25 runs. Shortstop Kaylie Nakao hit .416 and scored 30 runs and second baseman Yanette Guzman batted .347.Peters pitched 109 innings and compiled a 1.6 ERA. Nakao, one of the team’s many freshmen, pitched 58 innings and had an ERA of 0.96.
