Beach Tennis Event To Debut In Santa Monica:

Beach Tennis, a new sport consisting of tennis played in sand on volleyball courts, will debut in Santa Monica June 23 and 24.

The event, known as Santa Monica Madness, is one of four scheduled in Southern California this summer. The others will be in San Diego, Santa Barbara and Long Beach.

The winner of each tournament will win $1,000 and qualify for the overall championship later this year in New York.

The Santa Monica event will be held just south of the Santa Monica Pier, adjacent to Shutters. There will be open play on Saturday and tournament play on Sunday.
