SMPD Offers Self Defense Class:

The Santa Monica Police Department is offering free self defense classes to any adults (18 and over) who live, work or attend school in Santa Monica. The SMPD Defensive Tactics Team will teach an abbreviated version of the Krav Maga system of self defense, taught to all officers and non-sworn personnel, which is easy to learn regardless of age, gender or physical fitness. It teaches you to use your personal body weapons and intuitive reactions rather than relying on strength.

The four-hour class will be offered on two days, Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, from 8:00 a.m. to noon or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Registration is open until the classes are full.

For more information or to register for a class, please call the Department’s Community Relations Unit at 310.458.8474.
