Saturday, August 25 at 4:15 a.m. – 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway – Officers monitoring traffic on PCH observed a car traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. They followed and paced the car at between 85 and 103 miles per hour, passing vehicles at speeds over 90 mph. (The posted speed limit is 35 on the curves and 45 on the straight-aways.) Officers pulled the 2003 Lexus over for reckless driving. The driver had no driver’s license and no I.D., and so she was arrested and taken into custody.

Thursday, August 23 at 1:30 a.m. – 400 block of Pacific Coast Highway –Officers initially responded to the Jonathan Club at 850 PCH in response to a call reporting a “suspicious person.” When they arrived, the individual had fled, and they were told the person had been trespassing on the property. Police checked the area and located a man a few blocks away who ran when they approached. Officers detained him in the 400 block of PCH. A search of his person turned up less than an ounce of marijuana in his pocket, and he was arrested for possession of same.

Two Bicycles Built for One?

Friday, August 24 at 8:25 a.m. – 900 block of 11th Street – A witness called police after seeing a man riding a bicycle and guiding a riderless bicycle alongside him. (The witness might not have thought anything of this, except that he recognized the guided bike as belonging to a neighbor.) When officers arrived, the witness directed them to the fellow’s location, and they detained him. A second witness reported seeing the same man dump a bike lock under a parked car. After a field show-up and identification by the witnesses, the man was arrested and charged with grand theft (value over $400). The bike lock and wire cutters were booked into evidence.

The Cell Phone Age

Saturday, August 25 at 12:40 a.m. – corner of 23rd Street and Hill Street – A woman had just parked her car and was walking on the sidewalk when a car pulled up to her, and a man jumped out and pointed a gun at her. He demanded her wallet. She screamed. As it happened, she was on her cell phone at the time, speaking with a friend, who of course heard what was happening. The assailant, apparently perceiving his situation, returned to his car and fled.

The suspect is described as a 15- to 20-year-old male Hispanic, 5’6”, 150-160 pounds, dark hair, medium complexion, wearing a dark-and-light striped shirt and dark pants, driving a newer, dark color, 4-door SUV.
