Fabulous Fiber Fest 2007, August 17-18 from 10am-6pm and August 19 from 10am-4pm
Knitters and weavers and quilters, oh my! Workshops of all kinds – including rug hooking, lace knitting and “Spinning Sock Yarn with Mother MacKenzie” – are available (for an additional charge). Wander the halls of the Civic to see all sorts of luscious fabrics and beads in every color under the sun. Learn about the history of silk, such as the three kinds of Tussah silk and how Indian Vanya silks are grown. If you love to create, the Fabulous Fiber Fest is for you.
Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main Street, thefiberfest.com, $6/$10
Garden Concert for Kids with Justin Roberts, August 18-19, 4pm/5pm
Justin Roberts is sort of the Bruce Springsteen for those in diapers, yet his rock and roll tunes keep the parents rockin’ as well. Roberts’ songs about chalk, cookies, a school bus, a rhino, naps, the sun and sea monsters are entertaining and fun, and sure to get the little ones doing a conga line around the Getty. If that’s not enough, Roberts has won the Parent’s Choice Gold Award four times.
