Alert: Police Blotter Santa Monica:

Pot Party

Wednesday, September 12 at 9:00 a.m. – 2300 block of Alley 20 [just east of 20th Street] – Officers responded to a call of suspicious persons hanging around the alley and found that two Los Angeles men were there in order to hide out while smoking marijuana. Police found a small amount of the weed on them and issued a citation for possession of less than an ounce of the stuff.

Pot Party II

Sunday, September 9 at 11:20 a.m. – Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Boulevard – Officers on routine patrol saw a Los Angeles man sitting on a gym bag and smoking a joint. When questioned, he said that the marijuana was medicinal, but he had no paperwork to back that up. He was arrested, taken in and booked, then “cited out” – released with a citation – for possession of less than one ounce of the stuff. [Moral: it’s still better to hide.]

On the Pier

Sunday, September 9 at 10:20 a.m. – Santa Monica Pier – A blind man was walking down the ramp to the Pier accompanied by his friend. A transient woman walking up the ramp told the blind fellow to get out of the way because her friend with her had a broken leg and could not negotiate the curb. The blind man said he would move, but it might take a moment since he was blind, and the woman became impatient, used profanity and physically pushed him out of the way. Police were summoned. The woman was identified by the blind man’s friend and another witness, who recounted the events. The woman was arrested for assault and battery. [The poor fellow with the broken leg apparently just stood by.]

Prowler

Monday, September 10 at 8:40 p.m. – 800 block of Idaho Avenue and environs – Police received several calls regarding a man going about the neighborhood, looking in apartment windows, knocking on doors and asking for money for food because he had just gotten out of jail. Responding officers observed the man in such activity, detained him and interviewed local residents upon whose doors he had knocked. They arrested the homeless fellow for prowling in violation of Penal Code section 647(h): Anyone “who loiters, prowls or wanders upon the private property of another, at any time, without visible or lawful business with the owner or occupant.”

Be Careful Out There

Tuesday, September 11 at 2:40 a.m. – 1600 block of Ocean Front Walk – Officers on patrol observed a man riding a bicycle where he should not have been riding. They stopped the fellow to issue a citation, but he had no I.D., and they can’t issue a ticket to an officially nameless man, so they arrested him so as to take him to the station, establish his identity, etc. In searching his belongings incident to arrest, officers found a small amount of crystal meth and a “dope pipe,” and so arrested the man for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia – as well as the municipal code violation for riding his bike where bike riding is not allowed.
