1. Arlington West Memorial was set up for the entire Veterans Day weekend, on the beach just north of the Pier. Crosses, Crescent Moons, and Stars of David, representing the 3,860 soldiers killed in Iraq, were on view. Eleven flag-draped caskets represented the current week’s death toll. More than one-third of all the soldiers killed in Iraq have had a family member or friend visit the memorial and leave a memento. Los Angeles Veterans for Peace and volunteers have maintained the memorial every Sunday and on holiday weekends since February 2004. 2.
