French electronic duo Daft Punk is known for providing visual stimulation to accompany its house beats. From its now legendary, robot-heavy live show to the anime film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ercret 5tar 5ystem, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have a knack for captivating audiences. Although this project began as an offshoot of the music videos for “Robot Rock” and “Technologic,” which the duo also directed, Electroma is not a vehicle for Daft Punk’s music. Instead, this film tells the story of two robots’ attempt to become human and features music by Curtis Mayfield, Todd Rundgren, Brian Eno, and others.

In addition to the likes of Manu Chao and Café Tacuba, the mix here can also feature Latin American hip-hop, reggae, funk, cumbia, and other styles. The residents are Sloe Poke, a turntablist known for his gigs at The Root Down in Silver Lake, house DJ Mando Fever, and musician-turned-DJ GOMEZCOMESALIVE!
