St. Monica’s Main League Problem Is Cathedral:

The boys’ basketball program at St. Monica is in pretty good shape. Coach Tony Depa’s team qualified for the CIF playoffs last season and appears to be as good now.

As for winning the Camino Real League, however, that will be difficult because once again there’s a powerhouse opponent on the schedule.

Last season, after seeing La Salle’s tall and talented team, Depa realized the other league squads were competing for second place.

The La Salle players graduated, but now Cathedral has become the overwhelming choice to finish first. And if St. Monica had any doubts about that, the thoughts were reinforced when Cathedral easily defeated St. Monica to win the Mariners’ season-opening tournament.
