Last summer, local indie rock outfit the Michael Craig Band took to the Temple Bar and won the West Coast Finals of the BlastBeat Battle of the Bands, sponsored by social networking service BlastSpace. Shortly after this performance, the band will be heading out to Ireland to compete against groups from across the globe. Sympathy for the Devil, January 9, 7 p.m., $5

Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, 310.442.7000

Written and directed by Jean-Luc Goddard, Sympathy for the Devil features the Rolling Stones recording the album of the same name. Interspersed throughout the recording session footage are clips involving the Black Panthers and a character named Eve Democracy, lending to a piece that is more about 1960s counterculture than simply a Rolling Stones album.
