Knife on the Pier

Monday, February 25 at 6:50 p.m. – Beach Parking Lot at 1550 Pacific Coast Highway – Two men were leaving the restroom under the Pier when a man walked in pointing a stainless steel serrated knife and yelled at them in Spanish. He then walked out to the bike path. The two men flagged down a harbor guard on the Pier, and the guard notified police. Responding officers detained a suspect who was identified by the men, and the knife was recovered. The suspect was arrested for brandishing a weapon.

Gun on Michigan

Friday, February 22 at 10:40 p.m. – 1900 block of Michigan Avenue -– Officers responded to a report of assault and battery in the 1800 block of Michigan Avenue, and on the way to the site they observed a man who matched the description of the suspect. When they attempted to stop him, he continued walking away from them. When the officers succeeded in stopping him in the 1900 block, he announced, “I’ve got a gun.” The officers recovered a loaded 38 caliber semiautomatic pistol from his waistband. The man, who turned out to be the brother of the subject of the initial report, was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm. The charge was enhanced inasmuch as the man admitted to being a gang member.

Monday, February 25 at 4:10 p.m. – 2400 block of Ocean Park Boulevard – Officers responded on a check forgery investigation and interviewed a man who reported that when he complained to his boss that he had not received his paycheck, his boss told him that the check had not only been sent to him but that it had been cashed at Bob’s Market. Follow-up investigation revealed that one of the man’s roommates, together with another person, had cashed the man’s paycheck at Bob’s on February 8, and the entire transaction had been captured on videotape. Arrest: forgery.

Caught with the GoodsSunday, February 24 at 3:20 a.m. – 2400 block of 28th Street – Officers responded on a report of a vehicle burglary just occurred. They detained a suspect who was identified by a witness who had seen the man walking away from a BMW carrying shoes, a cell phone charger, DVDs, and other personal property stolen from the car. The property was recovered, and the man was arrested for auto burglary.
