REMEMBERING FALLEN HEROES:

Families, fellow service members, and the community visited the Arlington 1. West Memorial north of the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, May 25. The memorial, representing the 4018 soldiers killed in Iraq was up Saturday through Monday with special Memorial Day events throughout the weekend. The Los Angeles Veterans for Peace, who created and have maintained the memorial since March 2004, catalogue and display mementoes brought by loved ones, and more than one-third of all the soldiers killed in Iraq have been personally memorialized here. 2. Here are just a few of the many scenes of Memorial Day on Santa Monica Beach. Actor and activist Ed Asner (r) was one of the speakers at a special Memorial Day KPFK live broadcast from Arlington West north of the Santa Monica Pier for a tribute to “Heroes of Peace” on Sunday, May 25th.
