Alert: Police Blotter : Santa Monica:

Saturday, June 21 at 8:30 a.m. – 100 block of Washington Avenue – Officers responded on a radio call regarding a Suspicious Person in the area. Upon arrival, the officers observed a man and a woman using a pry bar in an attempt to enter a vacant house with plywood over the windows. Police detained the two people and conducted a “pat down” search and discovered other tools that would assist them in breaking into the house. Both persons, transients, were arrested for possession of burglary tools and held on $500 bail.

Saturday, June 21 at 1:35 p.m. – 1500 block of 5th Street – Officers responded to the Fred Segal store on a call of Unknown Trouble. The plainclothes security guard said he had asked a man to leave the store, as he was creating a disturbance, whereupon the man threatened the security guard and took up a fighting stance. Officers arrested the man, a Los Angeles resident, for making threats of violence (Penal Code 422), and he is being held on $50,000 bail.

ExtortionSunday, June 22 at 7:35 p.m. – 1300 block of 22nd Street – Officers responded on an extortion investigation and interviewed a man, who said that his cell phone had been stolen from his car after he had valet-parked the vehicle. He called his cell number, and the man who answered said it would cost $100 to have the phone returned. The victim agreed, and set up “the meet” to exchange the money for the phone and then called the police. A very careful trap was laid . . . and the Suspect never showed. The investigation, as they say, is ongoing.
