UU Church of Santa Monica Gets a Green Certificate:

The Unitarian Universalist Community Church is the first church in Santa Monica to receive the Green Business Certificate from Sustainable Works, a nonprofit organization with the City of Santa Monica, which promotes sustainable practices in the urban environment. Matt Henigan presented the document to Rev. Judith Meyer and President Ron Crane at the Church’s Board Meeting on June 10, 2008.

The Unitarian congregation was commended for its 27 percent waste reduction, 12 percent energy conservation, and for changing its janitorial cleaning supplies and paper products to environmentally friendly alternatives.

The completion of this year-long program is another step in the church’s goal of becoming a “Green Sanctuary” with the Unitarian Universalist Association.
