At the Airport

Monday, July 7 at 11:05 p.m. – 3000 block of Airport Avenue – An Airport Security Officer (ASO) saw an intoxicated man trespassing and vandalizing an airplane at Santa Monica Airport. When the officer attempted to contact the man, he ran away, and the ASO followed him until SMPD officers arrived. After a brief struggle, the man, a Los Angeles resident, was arrested for vandalism, public intoxication, trespass, and resisting arrest.

On PCH

Tuesday, July 8 at 2:37 a.m. – 1400 block of Pacific Coast Highway – Officers were on patrol in a specially equipped police car that reads the license plates of surrounding vehicles and searches records to see if any have been reported stolen. They got a hit on a car in a beach parking lot and detained the man and woman in the car. After interviewing them, the officers arrested the woman, a Los Angeles resident, as the suspected driver for driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

On Main Street

Thursday, July 10 at 12:45 p.m. – 1600 block of Main Street – A park ranger saw a man in illegal possession of a shopping cart and a milk crate while illegally smoking at a bus stop. The man then flicked his lit cigarette into the street. The ranger summoned SMPD officers who arrested the man, who had no valid identification, for smoking at a bus stop, throwing a lit cigarette in the street (a Health and Safety Code violation) and illegal possession of the shopping cart and the milk crate.

Auto Burglary

Monday, July 7 at 3:00 a.m. – 2600 block of 30th Street – Officers responded on a call of an auto burglary and found three men matching the descriptions given to the SMPD dispatcher by the reporting party. The officers found items that had been stolen from vehicles in the area on or near the three men, two from Palmdale and one from Lancaster, and they were arrested for burglary and possession of stolen property.

Nunchucks

Tuesday, July 8 at 12:40 p.m. – 6th and Bay Streets – Officers responded on a call of a possible fight and spoke to a group in an illegally parked car. They found that the driver was in possession of a dangerous weapon (nunchucks) and of a switchblade knife, and they found marijuana, alcoholic beverages, and graffiti tools in the car. The driver, a Los Angeles minor, was charged with possession of the contraband, and one passenger, a Santa Monica minor, was charged with possession of marijuana and being a minor in possession of alcoholic beverages.
