New Officers Sworn In:

Officers Adam Buus and Jay Zabate were sworn in as the newest Santa Monica police officers in a June 26 ceremony in the City Council chambers at City Hall. Buus, 26, has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Cal State Northridge and was an SMPD Cadet before joining the police force; his mother, Barbara Buus, pinned his badge on during the ceremony. Zabate, 34, was a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff before joining SMPD; he is a graduate of Pierce College, and his wife Taheerah pinned his badge on to welcome him to the Santa Monica force.

Police Chief Timothy Jackman urged the new officers to study not only local events but also world events as they might impact Santa Monica.
