The Saint Monica football team, rarely seen in Santa Monica in recent years, will play three games at Corsair Field this season.
With no campus field, Saint Monica has been playing home games at St. Bernard High in Playa del Rey. But this season it will play three home games at St. Bernard and three at Corsair Field.
The only Saint Monica appearances in the city during the last six years consisted of an annual non-league against Santa Monica which the schools hoped to promote as a major local event. However, after Saint Monica won once the Samohi wins were so one-sided that the series was called off.
But now, with FieldTurf being installed at SMC, more games can be scheduled on a weekend without the chance the playing field being greatly affected. Instead of grass being worn down and mud developing from a rainy night the games will be contested on a carpet.
Saint Monica has won just one game in the last two years with records of 1-9 and 0-10.
The 2008 Mariner games at Corsair Field will be against Chadwick on Oct. 3, Villanova Prep on Oct. 11 and Bellarmine Prep on Oct. 18.
