It was arts night out last Saturday at the crowded opening reception of Emphasis Santa Monica at SMC’s new Pete & Susan Barrett Gallery at 11th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. Two of the city’s 49 artists on display were Malissa Shriver (left) and Bruria Finkel. Finkel, the show’s curator, has her work “From Dawn to Sunset” on display. Shriver, whose spouse, Bobby, is on the City Council, is displaying “Calamus,” a mixed media work with the accompanying artist statement: “…I am always inspired by the beauty of this city, its youthful energy, and its cultural uniqueness.” Emphasis Santa Monica runs through October 18. Admission is free.
