Politics reared its sometimes ugly head on Tuesday night, September 9, and the Santa Monica City Council meeting scheduled for that time was cancelled “due to a lack of quorum,” according to the City Clerk’s office.
It seems that all four Councilmembers seeking reelection (a majority of the Council) opted to attend the L.A. County Democratic Party meeting to seek that group’s endorsement in the race. Councilmember Kevin McKeown, whose term is not up this year, said, “From what I understand, the County Democrats’ recommendation to endorse Ted Winterer galvanized the incumbents. I’m glad to see Ted Winterer and the traffic initiative become such a unifying force, I guess, but I thought we had a job on Tuesday nights.”
A special meeting will be held next Tuesday, September 16.
