SMC Athletic Director Resigns:

Rhonda Hyatt, Santa Monica College’s athletic director since 2005, has resigned to accept a faculty position at College of the Canyons, which is much closer to her home.

Hyatt has overseen many projects at SMC, the most recent being the conversion of Corsair Field from natural grass to FieldTurf and the selection process in hiring a new mens’ basketball coach.

Nearing the end of the search for a new basketball coach, school officials now must turn their attention to selecting a new athletic director.

Hyatt is well respected for both her skills in handling the tasks and her pleasant manner.

“I will miss SMC, but the commute finally wore me down,” she said.
