James Leads Brentwood To Victory:

Charlie James is outstanding on both offense and defense for Brentwood School’s football team. But his kicking was the story of a 27-6 Alpha League victory over Campbell-Hall Saturday afternoon.  James kicked field goals of 39, 39, 37 and 47 yards and had punts of 57, 40 and 44.

“Since I’ve been here, which is 30 years, we hadn’t had anyone kick four field goals in a game,” said Brentwood Coach Patrick Brown.

At halftime, Campbell-Hall had a 6-3 lead and after three quarters Brentwood was ahead 9-6, with James’ field goals accounting for all of the Eagles’ points.

But Brentwood broke loose for 18 fourth quarter points, including a 16-yard touchdown pass from Josh Amster to James.

“We were just missing early in the game,” said Brown. “We barely missed on two touchdown passes where the ball was caught out of the end zone.

“Campbell-Hall’s defense was geared to stop Josh’s running, and he ran for only 50 yards. But Matt Greenberg had a touchdown run and we spread out the ground yardage a bit.”

Brentwood’s record improved to 5-1. The Eagles’ game at Calvary Chapel this week will be played Thursday night, October 23 at Downey High.
