Brentwood Win Sets Up Alpha Title Showdown:

It will be Maranatha High visiting Brentwood Friday afternoon, November 14 for the Alpha League football championship.

The meeting of the league’s co-leaders was assured Saturday, November 8 when Brentwood shrugged off a 97-yard return of the opening kickoff to defeat Kilpatrick, 46-22.

The Brentwood crowd was stunned by the dash, which gave the visitors a 7-0 lead, but the Eagles recovered to go ahead at halftime, 36-7. The margin grew to 46-14 before Kilpatrick scored the final touchdown.

Charlie James kicked a pair of 41-yard field goals, giving him 13 on the season to rank among the state leaders.

Quarterback Josh Amster passed for 117 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 134 yards on 11 carries as the Eagles improved their season record to 8-1, the only loss coming to St. Bernard in a non-league game.

Ben Green had two touchdown receptions, Greg Oliva one, and Matt Greenberg, returning from a three-game absence due to a shoulder injury, scored two touchdowns on short runs.

Maranatha features a strong passing attack, and Brentwood Coach Patrick Brown ranks the team’s quarterback as the best Brentwood will have faced this season.

Both teams are assured of CIF playoff berths and will learn where their opening playoff game will be when the announcement is made on Sunday, November 16.
