Herb Katz Services to Be Held Monday, January 12:

Santa Monica Councilmember and former Mayor Herb Katz passed away peacefully on the afternoon of January 7 with family and close friends by his side. [Santa Monica Mirror, January 8-14] A public memorial service will be held on Monday, January 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Monica Catholic Church, 725 California Avenue, followed by graveside burial service at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1847 14th Street.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to either the John Wayne Cancer Institute at 2200 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica, 90404, 310.315.6111 or the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at 1441 Eastlake Avenue, Los Angeles, 90033, 323.865.0700. Any flowers sent in addition should be at the church prior to 9:30 that morning.

Important information on parking, traffic and street closures:

To accommodate the funeral and procession, parking will restricted from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the 1000 and1100 blocks of 7th Street, 1000 and1100 blocks of Lincoln Boulevard, 600 and 800 blocks of California Avenue, 1400 block of Michigan Avenue, and on 14th Street from Olympic to Pico Boulevards. Guests arriving at Saint Monica’s will be directed where to park via signs and by police department personnel.

From Saint Monica Church, the processional route will be west on California to 7th, south on 7th to Wilshire, west on Wilshire to Ocean, south on Ocean to Colorado, east on Colorado to Main, south on Main to Olympic Drive, east on Olympic Drive to 11th (passing by both City Hall and the Public Safety Building), south on 11th to Michigan, east on Michigan to 14th, south on 14th to the cemetery entrance. Upon arrival, guests will be directed to parking by police department personnel.
