With non-league play concluded, Western League football competition will begin this weekend with Venice favored to repeat as champion.
A year ago the Gondoliers lost all five non-league games, and then went 5-0 in the league.
This time Venice has a 4-1 non-league record with the only loss coming against nationally-ranked Oaks Christian. Last weekend Venice defeated San Fernando, 30-10 and the Gondoliers will begin league play against University at home Friday night.
Quarterback Alfonso Medina was all-league last season and linebacker Jonathan McNeal has received several Division 1 scholarship offers.
Palisades begins Western League play with an 0-5 record following a 24-7 loss to Franklin last weekend. Palisades’ first league game will be against Westchester, which has won three games under the direction of new coach Ruffin Patterson.
