Motorcycle Officer Hits Car:

On November 21, 2009 at 7:50 A.M., a Santa Monica motor officer struck the rear of a vehicle as he attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation.

The initial investigation revealed that the driver of a BMW convertible was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway approaching the California Incline. The motor officer activated his emergency lights on his police motorcycle to affect a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The motorcycle officer was unable to avoid striking the rear of the vehicle and was thrown from his motorcycle.

The motorcycle officer, a seven year veteran of the Santa Monica Police Department, received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the location and released. The Santa Monica Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
