Celebrating 50 years of chilly New Year’s Day swims, a collection of dedicated “Penguins”from master swimmers to amateur waders will plunge into the brisk Pacific Ocean on January 1st.
Every year the Penguin Swim celebration attracts swimmers of all ages from 9 to 99 years old. Each year the event builds camarederie and renewed friendships. Last year the event concluded with a cup of hot chocolate.
Each year a Penguin Queen and King are chosen from the amateur fun lovers, and a Penguin Prince and Princess who will qualify by winning the competitive race.
The event will take place at Beach Brakewater in Venice at 12 Noon with sign ups for the swim at 11 a.m. This year’s event on January 1, 2010 promises to be the first and biggest New Year event in Southern California.
