Holiday Cheer Afloat a Float:

The 47th annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade took place on Saturday, December 12. Christmas In Paradise was the theme of this year’s event. Participating boats circled the Marina main channel several times.

In spite of the pouring rain the Marina del Rey Boat Parade and fireworks showcased the holiday’s harbor Christmas spirit once again this year as a fair amount of old and new parade boat fans gathered from miles around.

“It went great this year but due to the rain we had some challenges. There were many people in the restaurants and hotels, but we still had a fair amount of people out,” said Cynthia Williams, Holiday Boat Parade President.

The Boat Parade also served as host to its 2009 Grand Marshal Zac Sunderland, the youngest person to sail around the world solo. Sunderland holds two records, as the youngest person to circumnavigate the world solo and the first person to set that record under the age of 18 years old.

Since the first boat parade the size of boats has grown in size from 100 to 6,000.
