Artist Baile Oakes’ 1991 Palisades Park installation, “Gestation III,” aligns visually with the Northern Hemisphere’s winter solstice sunset which this year will be on Monday, December 21. Thereafter days will begin lengthening, “marking the return of the life giving sun” according to work’s accompanying bronze plaque. The installation is in the 700 block of Ocean Avenue (between Palisades Street and Montana Avenue) and each it year it draws a small group to watch the winter solstice sun set.
