Alert: Police Blotter:

It’s a Stick-Up!
Wednesday, January 27, 1:59 a.m. Officers received a report of a “strong armed robbery” in the 300 block of Pico Boulevard and so rushed there to put a stop to it. When they arrived at the scene, two victims – one male citizen, and one female citizen – met them. The citizens told the cops that they had been in a parking lot when three guys approached them, and using a line that could well have been lifted from a 1950s comic strip, said, “This is a stick-up!” The male citizen did not easily comply with the sentiment implied by this announcement, and resisted. The three bad guys then started to kick and hit the male citizen, and all the while they made attempts to reach into his pockets. They then changed their target, and took some keys from the female citizen’s pockets. After doing this they ran away. The cops, however, did not let them get far, and caught this trio of hoodlums a short distance away, and conveyed them to jail, to be charged with strong-armed robbery. Two of these guys were 19, and bail for them was fifty grand apiece. The third villain was a juvenile. He was not eligible for bail.

One Bicycle, Five Charges

Friday, January 29, 5:01 p.m. Officers were on patrol in the area of the 1300 block of (surprise, surprise!) Lincoln Boulevard when they noticed a violation of a Santa Monica Municipal Code section that prohibits the riding of a bicycle on the sidewalk. They then attempted to stop this guy on a bike, but he made a run (ride?) for it. The cops chased this guy and as they did they noticed that he removed a bottle of alcohol from the bicycle’s drink holder and threw it down to the ground. The cops eventually caught this bicycle enthusiast in the 1400 block of Lincoln Boulevard. The officers asked the guy what his name was, but he (as they would soon discover) gave them a made-up one. The finishing line of this “tour de Lincoln Boulevard” resulted in this 53-year-old man, bereft of residence, being arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, false identification to officers, littering, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, and parole violation.  He was not eligible for bail.

Wife Gone Wild!

Thursday, January 28, 7:20 a.m. Here’s the scene: A husband and his wife were in the 500 block of Olympic Boulevard when the wife, who happened to be homeless (?), accused the husband of having an affair with a mutual friend. The wife then expressed her frustration over these suspicions by punching the husband with a closed fist. When the cops arrived, the husband told them that the wife had had a metal object in her hand (a wedding ring, perhaps?), but the wife had, by that time, run off. The cops noticed that the husband had abrasions to his face. The cops located this wife a couple of days later and thus arrested her for assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence.   Her bail is $50,000. She is still homeless.
