Alert: Police Blotter:

Check This: “I’ve Been Stolen!”

Wednesday, March 17, 4:45 p.m. Officers went to the 700 block of Hill Street in response to a report of an identity theft. When they arrived, the cops identified the victim, and she told them that she had gone to her bank only to be told that someone using one of her checks had withdrawn $600 from her account. The cops investigated, and discovered that this woman’s grandson had stolen some checks from her checkbook, and had deposited one of them into an account that he had opened under his own name (thus not actually stealing her identity per se, but perhaps borrowing it without consent). Officers located this “personality purloiner,” a 28-year-old homeless man, arrested him, and checked him into the jail for forgery and grand theft. Bail was $20,000 (I wonder if he tried to write a check for that?)

Tums

Wednesday, March 17, 12:00 p.m., a man entered the Rite-Aid store located on the 2400 block of Pico Boulevard, and took some vitamins, and some antacid tablets, and placed them into the pockets of his trousers. The suspect then picked up a soda, paid for it, and left the store (keeping the other stuff concealed in his trousers). Store security agents followed him, and brought him back to the store, where they placed him under citizen’s arrest. The agents then called the cops, and the cops came, and this soda-swigging-vitamin-taking-acid-reflux-suffering 50-year-old male thief was taken to jail, and booked for petty theft with prior convictions. Bail $25,000.

Trouble

Thursday, March 18, 10:37 a.m. Officers went to the 2600 block of 28th Street in response to some “trouble.” Upon arrival, they discovered a woman who claimed that she had been assaulted, and that her purse had been stolen by a man, who had then fled the scene (well, he was unlikely to do all that and then just stand there, one assumes). The cops located this 26-year-old guy in Los Angeles, and he was arrested. He was booked for robbery, burglary and domestic violence (perhaps he was her “partner?”).  His bail is $50,000.00.
