The Joker Bar on Pico Boulevard has been the target of local and State narcotics investigators because bartenders and patrons allegedly have been selling cocaine at the establishment.
During the investigation, undercover investigators were able to make purchases of illegal drugs from bar employees and patrons on several different occasions.
California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Investigators and members of the Santa Monica Police Department Vice/Narcotics Unit have arrested a 39-year-old Culver City woman, Theresa Ann Beatty and recovered folded-paper container of cocaine in the bathroom of the Joker following an investigation.
Beatty, a bartender at the Joker Bar, was charged with possession of narcotics, conspiracy and selling of narcotics.
Reports indicate that officers also recovered additional evidence at an undisclosed location including approximately two additional ounces of cocaine, measuring scales, and $5,000 in cash. They also have arrested a second individual, who officers not identify to avoid jeopardizing the on-going investigation. More arrests are expected.
This operation was a combined effort between ABC and the Santa Monica Police Department.During the investigation, undercover investigators were able to make purchases of illegal drugs from the bar employees and patrons on several different occasions.
ABC along with the Santa Monica Police Department initiated the investigation due to heightened concern about this location based on observations of officers and complaints by area residents. ABC investigators went undercover multiple times during the past two months to develop the information that led to the arrest.
ABC will file an accusation against the licensed business. The penalty could range from a fine to a revocation of the license. The investigation is on-going and additional arrests are anticipated.
