A new Walgreens Pharmacy retail building is being proposed for 1907-1929 Lincoln Boulevard.
The proposed project contains a 12,041 square feet building with 30 surface parking spaces. The ground floor would contain 9,840 square feet and the basement would be 2,201 square feet. Walgreens wants to place the building on the corner of the lot by Pico Boulevard and have the parking lot on the south side by Bay Street.
A community meeting about the project was held on November 16, 2010 at Virginia Avenue Park. According to City Planner Paul Foley more than 20 residents attended the meeting. Their main concern was that they wanted Walgreens to locate the parking lot on the corner by Pico Boulevard instead of the building. This will mean the neighbors on Bay Street would be further away from the parking lot and parking access would be made from Pico and Lincoln Boulevard.
The parcels chosen for the project currently contain several buildings that will have to be demolished to make way for the project.
An Environmental Impact Report (EIR) has already been completed for the project. It found that the project would cause significant traffic impacts on the nearby intersections that cannot be mitigated. The report will be released for the 30-day comment period in early January 2011. The Planning Commission will review the EIR this March.
Walgreens is interested in selling alcohol at this store so they have to obtain a Conditional Use Permit from the city to do so.
There is currently one other Santa Monica Walgreens which is located at 1932 Wilshire Boulevard.
