Although college students were first to join, it wasn’t long before those student’s mothers were sending out friend requests. Now the Santa Monica Police Department has joined Facebook and is encouraging the community to “like” them, the approval method on the social network. Just as many other Police Departments across the country, the Santa Monica Police Department has incorporated Facebook into their policing efforts, using the social network to provide members with regularly updated information and bulletins.
The Department’s goal is to communicate more effectively with members of the community through a method that many – if not most – in the public has already embraced. Social media attracts members of all ages from all corners of our community.
“The Santa Monica PD Facebook page will keep our community in the loop,” said Chief Timothy Jackman.
“The Santa Monica Police Department’s Facebook page is already being used to aid with locating missing and wanted persons, to provide notifications about driving under the influence (DUI) enforcement campaigns, and to publicize outreach programs and other special events. We are confident that this information will be useful to our community,” said Sergeant Jay Trisler, Press Information Officer.
Our website, http://www.santamonicad.org will remain the official form of communications for the Department. Bulletins and other information posted to the website will continue to be linked to our Facebook page. To get to see some of the behind the scenes photographs of the Department in action, please visit http://www.facebook.com/SantaMonicaPD and be sure to “Like” us.
