Santa Monica Strikes Up Community Support: 15th Annual SuperBowl-A-Thon to Raise Funds for Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition

On February 4, more than 550 bowlers representing various businesses, social service agencies, and local government will compete in a unique and very special fundraising event: SuperBowl-A-Thon XV.

The event, benefiting the Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition, takes place at AMF Bay Shore Lanes in Santa Monica from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. This bowling marathon brings the private and public sectors together with local social service agencies to raise funds for the eradication of homelessness on the Westside of Los Angeles.Proceeds help fund the coalition’s efforts to strengthen services to homeless and at-risk, men, women and families through education, advocacy and service coordination.

“This is a wonderful event for a great cause and we are pleased to have the widespread participation and support of the business community,” said co-chairs Lynne Thomas (The Lobster) and Ron Davis (CapitalSource Bank).

This year’s “Perfect Game” title sponsor is CapitalSource Bank with “Strike” sponsors: Bayside District Corporation, The Lobster; Morley Builders, Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau, Santa Monica Police Officers’ Association, Santa Monica Firefighters Association, Spectrum Athletic Club-Santa Monica, and Striker Media Group.

The 2011 “Spare” level sponsors are: Coalition of Santa Monica City Employees, Harding Larmore Kutcher & Kozal LLP, Hotel Erwin on Venice Beach, JW Marriott Santa Monica, Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica, NMS Properties and Santa Monica Place.

Community leaders who will bowl include Santa Monica’s Mayor Richard Bloom, members of Santa Monica City Council and Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board members, joining additional representatives from civic, faith, business and nonprofit organizations. And of course, Santa Monica Police Chief Timothy Jackman and Santa Monica Fire Chief Scott Ferguson will be squaring off in traditional Fire versus Cops battle for bragging rights and a bottle of ketchup.
