On Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the parking structure located at 1555 Second Street in order to investigate a report of men who were using bolt cutters in order to steal bicycles. Upon arrival the officers looked for the suspects, and eventually discovered them in the 1600 block of Fourth Street.
The officers searched these men and discovered that they indeed did possess bolt cutters. Not only that, but as a result of the officers’ investigation they also discovered that these bolt cutters had been stolen from a nearby store. These men, one aged 38, and the other aged 56 (both Santa Monica residents), were arrested, with the former being charged with burglary, conspiracy, and a violation of his probation, while the latter faces charges of possession of stolen property, conspiracy, and a probation violation. Neither of these alleged bicycle thieves was granted bail.
