For the second time in as many games dating back to last year, late heartbreak stunned the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs soccer team.
After 85 minutes of defensive gridlock at 0-0, SMC’s Yaya Godinez went for the ball and tripped Riverside freshman Caitlin Crouse. Crouse received a penalty kick and just got the ball in the left side of the goal to take a late 1-0 lead.
SMC had one last chance, but the game’s MVP, Riverside goalie Jordan Crosby, made the last of many saves to secure the Tigers’ 1-0 road victory over SMC.
SMC will play at Miramar on Tuesday.
