The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) is seeking applications for appointment to the Personnel Commission.
Applications are now being accepted for the Personnel Commission vacancy, which becomes available on Dec. 1, 2011.
The appointment will be for a three-year term.
The Personnel Commission is the public body responsible for the administration of a “merit system;” for the selection, retention and promotion of classified (i.e., non-teaching) employees in a public school system.
By law, it is composed of three members appointed for three-year terms with the term of one member expiring each year. In order to qualify, an applicant must be:
• A registered voter and a resident within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District boundaries.
• Familiar with the “merit system” and support the concept of employment, continuance in employment, in-service promotional opportunities and other related matters on the basis of merit and fitness.
Additionally, an applicant cannot be a member of the SMMUSD Board of Education, or of the County Board of Education, or an employee of the District.

Applications must be submitted by Oct. 14, 2011.
